Before the rather ignorant Victorians introduced the Grey Squirrel, ‘To add attraction to London Parks’, our native Red ruled the ancient woodland tree tops.
Now decimated by the Pox disease Grey’s carry, and their greater size and dominance, the Red is only found in isolated pockets of our Nations.
Fortunately the reintroduction/support of our native Pine Marten is pushing back on the Grey’s, allowing Red’s to spread and thrive.
If you are lucky enough to capture a ‘Fleeting Glimpse’ of our most beautiful woodland occupant, then you are blessed.
