Sunset by the Boat

When a self taught artist (well me anyway!) learns to paint, referring to past Great Masters is a must.

Naturally I leaned towards Constable. Partly because he’d lived locally, also he strived for realism (which I considered the goal).
Eventually he was successful… ‘making it’… even though great fame trundled along to late.
I sensed a battle with him and Turner, who I didn’t get. But hey… he made it too!
Choosing to find ‘My Style’… by adapting between their works, became a period of great learning. Mostly about myself.
In hindsight… not the path to follow.
No matter what, even now, your overriding style breaks through. It just can’t help itself 🙂
‘Sunset by the Boat’ is a looser work, mostly palette knife, but with finer brush elements, that my style forces through.
